The following represent updates to CAMRA's WhatPub database took place between 12 January and 9 March 2025

BEXLEY

BEXLEYHEATH, FRANKIE & BENNY'S (Restaurant Group), 28-30 Broadway, DA6 7LL. Reopened as COBAN'S KITCHEN, a Turkish restaurant with meze bar.

CRAYFORD, CRAYFORD ARMS (Shepherd Neame), 37 Crayford High Street, DA1 4HH. Closed mid-February, future uncertain.

ERITH, ROYAL OAK (Town Centre Inns), 270 Bexley Road, DA8 3HB. Real Ale reinstated thanks to Mighty Oak who have assisted in reconnecting unused pumps. Two guest ales such as Brains Rev James Original; Timothy Taylor Landlord and changing beer from Mighty Oak.

BROMLEY

ANERLEY, DOUGLAS FIR (Gipsy Hill Brewery), 144 Anerley Rd, SE20 8DL. Closed without any prior warning at the end of 2024 due to an unsustainable rent rise. Landlord reportedly wants to redevelop the property.

BECKENHAM, COACH & HORSES (All Our Bars), Burnhill Road, BR3 3LA. Now Cask Marque accredited.

BIGGIN HILL, BLUNDELL'S, Jail Lane, TN16 3AU. Originally starting in 1981 as the Biggin Hill Squash Club, this has expanded over the years into a community hub. Primarily a fitness and sports club, the emphasis is on keeping fit whilst enjoying a few drinks afterwards. The club is open to everyone - visitors are allowed but are requested to join the club if coming on a regular basis. Two bars are currently operational. A single cask ale (recently Long Man Best Bitter) is available to quench thirsts after working out for it.

BROMLEY, BICKLEY & WIDMORE WORKING MENS CLUB, 2A Canons Road, BR1 2SH. A traditional, family friendly members only club, with pool, darts, weekly bingo and other events. Spacious and refurbished interior with plenty of seating and a single bar. Single cask ale available, which can change on a regular basis. Benches are placed out front in warmer weather. New building dates from 2018 and replaces the older brick built premises constructed in 1969, with memorial stones inlaid at the base.

BROMLEY COMMON, TWO DOVES (Punch), 37 Oakley Road, BR2 8HD. Reopened under new management since early 2025.

CONEY HALL, CRAFTY BARBERS TAP ROOM & BAR, 6 Kingsway, BR4 9JF. A barbers by day offering a full range of barbering services but a bar and tap room in the evening. The bar opened in November 2024 as a bold venture within the existing barbers premises (which opened in 2008). The single small bar at the rear serves a room where the wash basins are covered up and the barbers chairs are removed at close of business and replaced with wooden tables and chairs. Wooden flooring and dim lighting complete the cosy atmosphere. No cask ale but keg offerings from Westerham plus cider from Turners. Over 21s only although accompanied children allowed at weekends until 6 pm.

EC3, FENCHURCH (//), 72 Fenchurch Street, EC3M 4BR. Traditional pub opened in refurbished former Lloyds Bank building. 14 keg lines. Three real ales such as Doom Bar, Landlord and Whistable Bay Pale Ale.

Located in a railway arch near to the Heathcote & Star, this bar and delicatessen has four KeyKeg taps that serve a range of craft beer and cider. One cider is also served from a bag-in-box. Wine, beer and cider is also available in bottles and cans. There is an outside seating area in the alleyway at the front. They host events such as wine tastings and supper nights.

E11, RED LION (Urban Pubs & Bars), 640 High Road, E11 3AA. Reopened following refurbishment retaining the wooden floors and mainly wooden furniture. The stables area has been converted into a separate bar.

E14, PITCH WHARF, 30 Churchill Place, E14 5RE. Opened in March. Large flagship venue for the chain. 2 Bars and a restaurant as well as multiple games you can book. The company do operate a membership scheme so it is likely that part of the premises is restricted to members only.

Reopened in January 2025 as the DARK HORSE claiming to be an unpretentious boozer bringing together beautiful Victorian architecture, one of the world’s most exciting, diverse music scenes, great English food and cold cold beer". Vintage pub classics include fish and chips, lamb shank hot pot, fresh pies, bangers and mash, prawn cocktail and rarebit crumpets. The walls are decorated with a curated collection of original music art and photography referencing the London and Camden music scene. No cask beer.

It is a luxury interpretation of a modern tavern, with own-brand caviar and a fresh seafood counter with produce from Spain and Cornwall. Customers can pick seafood to enjoy in the pub, or take it home! There is a small bar-snacks menu, and the main restaurant upstairs has of course more substantial dishes. Expect to pay Pimlico prices. The Guiness is installed via the tap system in Ireland, and Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone beer range is available. No cask ale.

The Troubadour is very close to the Pembroke pub on Old Brompton Road and was founded in 1954; it has become one of London's oldest independent music venues. Over the years it has hosted such as Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Paul Simon, Adele, Ed Sheehan and many many more! There is live music most days of the week and a wide range of music genres. The food menu includes a breakfast/brunch offering plus in the evenings pub favourites and sharing platters. The drinks list includes various keg beers and ciders plus some bottles, plus of course the usual cocktails, wines, and spirits. A service charge is added to bills. It is perfectly possible to drink without needing to eat, but for most of the music events an entry fee will be charged, see venue website.

SW5, TWICE SHY, 14 Hogarth Place, SW5 0QT. This is a cocktail bar, opened in 2023 by a former head mixologist at the Savoy. Now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. The venue has a ground floor featuring a five-meter black granite counter, and a basement with a Lounge Bar and cocktail laboratory. Over 18s only, no fancy dress or football colours. Walk-ins accepted. Light food available. Card only. Sister venue to Amaro Bar.

SW6, TEMPERANCE (Wellington/Stonegate), 90 Fulham High Street, SW6 3LF. Reopened following refurb. New additions include 98-inch and 85-inch TVs placed throughout the venue. Five new seating booths have also been installed, all equipped with HD TVs, while new pool tables and dart boards are available throughout the pub. The venue also support sport within the local community through its sponsorship of Hammersmith and Fulham Rugby Club. No cask ale.

This is the first and flagship store of the small London-based Vagabond wine bar chain, open since 2010. 100+ wines are available by the glass, bottle or takeaway, plus a few draught keg beers. W1, BLACK BOOK, 23 Frith Street, W1D 4RR. Initially launched as a members club, this subterranean space is now open to the public as well. The name is a reference to the 'black book' which sommeliers are said to keep for tasting notes about wines. This is the latest outlet from Market Halls, in the new Paddington Square development just east of the main Paddington Station entrance from Praed Street. It has an outdoor terrace, eight street-food traders, and two bars. Kitchens close an hour before the venue closing time but Farm Girl opens 8am Monday-Saturday for coffee and breakfast, 10am on Sunday. All other kitchens open from 11.30am. At date of this entry the licence conditions are not known, but may not allow alcohol from 8am.

This site towards the north end of Portobello Road was a former Truman pub converted c.2010 into a pizza restaurant and thought by CAMRA to be "permanently closed". Phoenix-like, a new pub has now emerged above Canteen restaurant and its access is in fact via a "speakeasy door" around the corner in Bevington Road. There is a small "Fat Badger" swing-sign to guide you. Public House Group, the umbrella company operating the Pelican nearby and the Hero in Maida Vale, has taken over the building. The Standard reports the pub is currently invite only!

W11, QUIET NIGHT INN (Max Barney Pub Company/Forest Road Brewery), 60 Great Western Road, W11 1AB. No longer sells real ale.

WC2, CELLARDOOR, Zero Aldwych, WC2R 0HS. Directly opposite the Wellington pub and looking like the entrance to one of the underground street WCs once so common in London, this is because it was indeed once a Victorian gents' loo; and is hence compact! "Covent Garden's smallest bar". A neon sign points the way down. No door charge and accepts walk-ins but space is very limited and various VIP options to get tables are available, see venue website.
