Two bar pub said to hold the oldest excise licence in the City. A long and thin pub entered down a narrow alley. Built shortly after the great fire of London, and licensed ever since. The impressive iron gates are reputed to have been a gift from William and Mary after what must have been an enjoyable visit (well it beats an online review)! There are two separate bars joined by a short corridor, with the larger available for hire. There are now four handpumps in each bar offering the same beers from the Nicholsons range. There is also a cellar bar (used as a restaurant) and a well-used set of outdoor tables. All the sports TVs have been removed and it is very much in the "classic" Nicholsons style again, though there is always some background music. A popular menu covers sandwich, nibbles and main meal options, plus selections of bar snacks for sharing. Due to the historic building features there is no level access, and the corridor is quite narrow.
