Reputed to be 400 years old but rebuilt 1861, the venue makes the rather dubious claim to have the second oldest licence in the West End. This delightful little pub down an alley between King Street and Pall Mall has a cosy ground-floor bar with wood panelling, mirrors and leaded windows. Here there is a television with its sound off, but the comfortable upstairs lounge is TV-free. Cold bar snacks are served; and accompanied children admitted until 6pm. Note that both sets of WCs are up/down steep stairs.
