A popular, cosy, well furnished corner tavern built in 1826 (apparently originally as a reading room); once a Whitbread pub it was bought by Shepherd Neame in the early part of this century. There is a single U-shaped room with a central bar, and largely banquette seating but with a few stools also. Many of the pictures and prints on the walls relate to the Duke of Wellington, including a framed Wellesley family tree. Situated between Sloane Square and Victoria, this is perhaps a quieter option for drinking than many of the venues nearer those stations. Up to five cask ales available from the SN range, depending on footfall. Food includes sandwiches and pub grub classics.
